Frequently Asked Questions
Is a separate account necessary to log on to the Student Portal?
No, the Student Portal is accessible with the regular student UM account (ixxxxxxx). Prerequisite is being registered as a student (at least conditionally approved) at Maastricht University.
How to register for new courses and exams?
Some faculties take care of the register for all courses and exams a student is expected to take part in. At other faculties students need to register themselves via the 'Course Registration' tab under the menu option "My Study". Check the faculty's policy in order to find out what the correct procedure is at the faculty. Instructions on registering for courses are available on the same tab.
Where to register for a new programme or re-register for the next year of a current programme?
Applying for a new programme or re-registering is facilitated by www.studielink.nl.
How to suggest a link for 'My Links'?
For students: Use the “ICT Support” option in the Student Portal menu to send the link.
For UM staff faculties: contact the head of education.
For UM staff service centres: contact the information manager.
All suggestions for links to be added are welcome. All feedback will be gathered and a decision will be taken which links will be added in the next release of the Student Portal.

Is the Student Portal the only way to access study related information?
The Student Portal integrates all relevant study related information from several source systems into one environment. In case the Student Portal has technical difficulties the Student Portal will provide the relevant link(s) depending on the type of failure. These are the direct links to the source systems:
- Course related information → Canvas
- My Timetable → Classic Timetable page
- My Webmail → Webmail
- My Courses → Classic MyUM portal
Where to find the GPA?
The GPA (Grade Point Average) can be found at the Courses page after clicking on ‘Show Results’. Per programme the faculty decides to show or hide the GPA in the Portal.
Use the "Faculty Support" option in the Student Portal menu to contact the Office of Student Affairs of the related faculty when the GPA is not correct or should be shown.

Sometimes the cache of the browser interferes with the login at the Student Portal. Sometimes it can be solved by clearing the browser cache (by Control-Shift-Del) and then restart the browser (closing all windows/tabs). If this does not work please contact the ICTS Servicedesk.
